Something fishy was going on in Key Stage One last Friday
... just ask the Year One children who spent a fish filled day at Plymouth’s
NMA!
The children dived in and found out about a whole host of
marine marvels, travelling across the world’s oceans, from the shores of
Plymouth to the coral reefs of the tropics.
A firm favourite was Snorkel, a ‘rescue turtle’ who is blind
in one eye. She was washed up on the Cornish
coast along with some other Loggerhead Turtles but couldn’t be let back into
the sea because of her health problems.
She is very well cared for at the Aquarium, where she receives all the
medication she needs.
Our day finished off with an interactive stage show where we
learned about some of the challenges faced by sea creatures all over our
planet. Our guide explained that we can all help, even in a small
way, by making sure that when we buy seafood we ‘Look for the Label’ which shows us that it has been caught
in a more fish-friendly way. By looking
out for the MSC label on seafood when out shopping, you can enjoy eating fish
more responsibly (details available on the MSC website).
